Outsiders
An Exhibition of Artworks by Nonhuman Others
2012

Aware of the historical context of outsider art and art brut exhibitions, I curated an exhibition of art by "nonhuman others"--tiny insects, wasps, bees and birds--beings that, like us, have an interesting propensity to build/make/create.

I am interested in the conversation about "outsiders", "others", naive art, and how this relates to dualities of marginalization/inclusion and domination/subordination.

In this exhibit, it is my intent to simultaneously give reverence to the artfulness of the created objects and to create a contemplative space to reconsider each of these artists/makers against the view we, as humans, have about our "inherent right to dominate all that is soul-less" in nature.
