Outsiders: An Exhibition of Artworks by "Nonhuman" Others
In the spirit of outsider art and art brut exhibitions, I curated an exhibition of art by "nonhuman others"--tiny insects, wasps, bees and birds--beings, that like us, have an interesting propensity to build/make/create. I am interested in the conversation about "outsiders", "others", naive art, and how it relates to dualities of power/marginalization.
My intent in this exhibit is to simultaneously give reverence to the artfulness of the created objects and to create a contemplative space to reconsider the artist/maker against the view we, as humans, have about our "inherent right to dominate all that is soul-less" in nature.
